Re: Thursday LUG Meeting - More Cube setup questions

you think there's a chance for the group
to play/experience with a super computer project?
like this http://clustercompute.com/

just came into my mind just now... can we do
it using imac parts? hehehe i have at least 24
350Mhz to 600Mhz imac logicboards to cluster.

i haven't seen a clustered imac project...

With abbr.'d answers.

How do you:

1. Setup the Mandriva, KDE, Cube? Use Compiz by clicking Menu, Tools, CompizConfig Settings Manager

2. Put a picture on the top face? Open program like above, click Desktop Cube, Appearance, Cube Caps, Scale Image, Add image.

3. Setup a 2nd wallpaper (or Skydome)? Open Compiz as in 1, click Skydome, add your image(s)

4. Rotate and show the top face? Press [Ctrl][Alt]Left-button[wheel] or last can be replaced by using the touchpad.

5. Rotate the cube? [Ctrl][Alt]right or left arrow

6. Scroll the windows on the cube face as thumbnails? [Ctrl][Alt]right or left and then the down arrow

7. Create a circle with the thumbnails? [Tab] where the key is the windows (;-) key

8. Show the thumbnails lined up in a row? [Shift]s right or left arrow, left button (a few other keys do same thing :-)

9. Show the wall? e
(you can drag the applications to different cube faces, select the face, & press e again)

10. Move the window to another cube face? Drag the window bar to another cube face.

11. Change the default actions for the keys or window elements? Open Compiz as in 1, select an option, click the Actions tab & General

12. Determine what the keys or window elements do? Open Compiz as in 11

How do you restart the KDE GUI (after Esko asks you about what an option does that messes up your ;-) display?
Press [Ctrl][Alt][Backspace] and log in.
Didn't work? Do the same thing again except change to one of the other GUI managers selected on the bottom left, log in and click Menu, System Tools, Configure Your Computer (or from a command line sign in as the root and type mcc)

Using Konversation, we finally logged into the AVLUG IRC on Freenode but didn't see any traffic. Sorry for not doing that before. Do we want to go over this feature in the next meeting?

We needed more of you at the meetings. Hopefully some that couldn't make it are going to SCALE this weekend. FYI My willpower couldn't stand it (due to Barry T's bad influence) and I had to buy some of their pie. It tasted GREAT!
